Introduce yourself. Where are you originally from? Where did you learn your craft and how/when did you get started?
Born and raised under the California sun. Grew up in Santa Cruz and lived my college years and early 20’s on the BarbaryCoast aka San Francisco. I moved to NYC at the wise age of 27 to follow my creative dreams of art stardom.
Starting HC was the first time in my life when everything came together in a perfectly beautiful way. I worked with a few lovely ladies who have been in my life for some time but have taken different creative paths than I. Together we came up with the branding, product line up and overall message of HC. My first store I ever had my product on sale in is to this day SHAG in Williamsburg.
What does it mean to you to be young and able?
Young with passion and Able to make changes to tread the path towards your bliss.
What was the biggest lesson you learned during the process of starting your business?
CONTRACTS, LAWYERS and IP oh my.
What’s your least favorite part of running a small business?
My least favorite part is all the red tape and taxes. I am not a conservative person but the US government doesn't make it particularly easy for small companies to thrive. However, there are lots of wonderful resources out there to help usher your entrepreneurial goals along, you just gotta invest the time into finding them.
What is your favorite part?
Working for myself, creating and expressing in a way that can be unorthodox for some but appreciated and admired by large swaths of people I would have never imagined.
What are some keys to running a successful small business?
Create a product that people can use in a practical sense but perhaps is presented in a unique way. Keep it simple but profound. Also think about your story and how it fits into what you’ve made and your vision of the world around you.
Breakfast or no breakfast? If yes, what is it?
I eat breakfast errrryday. I love to make chicken bone broth with an egg and cabbage for breakfast. It keeps me sustained till about 1 or 2 and I don’t feel crazy from any kind of sugar over load. I like to snack on roasted almonds if I get peckish before lunch.
