Design Entrepreneurs NYC is a free mini-MBA program developed by FIT and the NYCEDC (New York City Economic Development Corporation) - the same people that created the CFDA Incubator. They have announced their open call for designers with a March 31 deadline for application.
As a participant, you'll learn the ins and outs of running a fashion business in specialized workshops with FIT faculty and industry professionals. You'll also pitch your business plan to a panel of influential industry leaders after completing the program. These leaders will provide unique insight based on their own experience on what it takes for a business to grow and succeed in the NYC fashion industry.
Becca McCharen of Chromat was last year's winner and won $25,000 to help fund her company. There is also a second place prize of $10,000.
"Chromat debuted with it's AW14 BIONIC BODIES collection at NYFW in February with the help of MADE Fashion Week. The new collection, which incorporates wearable technology, chromed metal plating, and new velvets, has been getting overwhelmingly positive feedback from writers at Vogue, i-D, Dazed, and more."
DENYC is holding a mix & mingle event at Zio on March 5th for anyone interested in the program. It's a great opportunity to network with other emerging designers and learn more about the program!
