When Derek Shaw just couldn’t find a wallet to satisfy his carrying needs he took a proactive approach: he handcrafted his own. What resulted was the perfect slim wallet. After a ton of positive feedback from his friends and family, he decided to start Waskerd (a clever anagram of his name).
Derek’s studio is based in the Philadelphia area, Manayunk to be precise. There, each wallet is carefully constructed from full-grain leather (the strongest and most durable leather you can use! ) and waxed cotton thread. From cutting to stitching, the entire process from start to finish is done entirely by hand. This results in a unique product that only gains more character as it develops a rich patina with use.
The brand has since expanded to include a variety of different wallets as well as small bags. Derek was kind enough to create a series exclusively for Young & Able with a unique colorway (pictured below).
